446 Schorl on Quartz Santa Cruz Mexico
13.2 X 8.4 X 5cm
My favorite schorls are from Mexico, as they usually exhibit a subtle rolling luster off the feathery faces that is only obvious when turning the specimen at different angles. This one is no exception. Compact masses radiating from central points scattered about the quartz matrix make this specimen dramatic and sculptural. If it had any calcite on it I'd put it in my collection, I like it that much. No damage. Noted as also Ex Durkos collection.

447 Schorl with Quartz Santa Cruz, Durango Mexico
4.5 X 4 X 2.7cm
This one was hard to photograph as the incomparable luster was so reflective as to cause light flares. Looking down on the piece you see the terminations of the bundled acicular masses and those have matt luster. Turn the specimen to view the sides of the sheafs and you are nearly blinded by the reflection (OK, a slight exaggeration, but you get the point). If I collected anything besides calcites I'd keep this one for myself. Simply stunning. Also ex-Ruggiero Collection.
