492 Rhodochrosite with Fluorite and Quartz Wutong Mine, Wuzhou Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang AR China
6.7 X 5.4 X 1.8cm
Very unusual bllod-red crystals of Rhodochrosite on a Quartz-Fluorite matrix associated with water-clear Quartz points. The Rhodochrosite crystals are elongated and distinctly scalenohedral in form, the only time I have seen this modification from China. Kevin Downey, China expert agrees with this assessment. There are numerous minute green-black globules preferentially deposited on Quartz points. These suggest Cornwalliote to me but I am unaware of any copper minerals associated with Wutong.

499 Rhodochrosite(?) and Ilvaite Remedios Mine, Taxco, Guerrero Mexico
4 X 2.8 X 2.3cm Bright orange
Interesting and attractive miniature with an airial presentation of Stellate pink crystals atop sharply crystallized black Ilvaite intermingled with brilliant small Colorless Quartz. The Arial pink display and some similar larger subhedral crystals on the base test variably slightly positive for Calcite (Delayed modest effervescence) in some areas and completely negative in others. this is most consistent with calcite rhodochrosite as opposed to managanoan Clacite. There is a pronounced reaction (orange) to LW (noted by Geoff).
