San Sebastion Mine, Durango Mexico, Amethyst on Quartz with Pyrite Inclusions
1 Amethyst on Quartz with Pyrite Inclusions San Sebastion Mine, Durango Mexico
7.3 X 6.3 X 3cm
A truly unique specimen. A host rock primarily comprised of pyrite hosts a surface area resplendent with glassy clear quartz of which many crystals have well defined brassy pyrite crystals completely included. Later stage quartz growth went amethystine, adding another layer of interest and aesthetics. Stunning piece.

Hanggang Mine, Inner Mongolia China, Andradite
2 Andradite Hanggang Mine, Inner Mongolia China
7.5 X 7 X 2.7cm
I have seen many of these from the Hanggang, especially when they came out about 5 years ago. This one is particularly bright and sharp. The mounded appearance adds some dimension.

Djurkovo Mine, Luki Ore District, Rhodope Mountains Bulgaria, Calcite and Quartz
4 Calcite and Quartz Djurkovo Mine, Luki Ore District, Rhodope Mountains Bulgaria
8.7 X 6.5 X 3.4cm
A super lusterous doubly terminated calcite perched on a shard of quartz matrix. The only attachment was the bottom of the quartz shard, so this is close to a floater. The growth layers on the calcite are dimensional and add high aesthetics. I am tempted to keep this. Pefect!

Longyan Mine, Fujian Province China, Calcite on Quartz
5 Calcite on Quartz Longyan Mine, Fujian Province China
9 X 7 X 5.4cm
I bought one specimen in Tucson this year. This was it. A new find of butterscotch crystals (to 4.4cm) with unusual radiating milky striations. Very high luster. Situated on a chalcedony shard with a micro crystalline surface. That surface shows through many gemmy areas of the calcites, adding a "dragon skin" look. The only one I could find with no damage. A few areas where there was clearly contact with neighboring crystals.

Soft lilac cubic fluorites , some with chalcopyrites suspended within, accompanied by brassy mounds of chalcopyrite , a few sphalerites and milky quartz crystals to 2cm. Under a loupe you would note the fluorites have several phantoms within. Wonderful.

Touissit Mine, Oujda Morocco, Galena on Smithsonite
9 Galena on Smithsonite Touissit Mine, Oujda Morocco
5.2 X 4 X 3.5cm
An outrageous lusterous grouping of stalagte like smithsonites topped with a "pineapple" of small galenas. One termination is broken very close to the top, as I suspect this piece was contacting the wall (floor?). Very unusual and super aesthetic.

Reel Mine, Lincoln County North Carolina, Quartz var Amethyst
10 Quartz var Amethyst Reel Mine, Lincoln County North Carolina
9.3 X 7.2 X 6.2cm
A doubly terminated partially cathedralized crystal with many growth faces , partly amethyst and partly smoky, as is typical from the Reel. An unfortunate chip at the main termination. I got this in a collection accrued in the 1960-late 70's. Doubly terminated crystals from the Reel are quite uncommon in the market.

Naica, Chihuahua Mexico, Quartz var Amethyst with Pyrite on Sphalerite
11 Quartz var Amethyst with Pyrite on Sphalerite Naica, Chihuahua Mexico
7 X 5.5 X 3cm
A gorgeous old timer with curious plate-like aggregates of pyrites (after barite?) on which sprays of opaque quartz sprays formed. The amethyst crystals reach 2.2cm and are aesthetically distributed. A couple of broken amethysts reveal this occurred in situ as the broken faces are healed. Obtained in a purchase of old dealer stock that had some very nice old time Naica pieces.
