The Milpillas will go down as one of the most prolific and finest localities for Azurites in the world. It is now depleted, but thousands of world class specimens in many styles were found. In 2011 a pocket was hit that was so exciting the miners clamored for specimens and the mine ownership had to instruct management to cement up the pocket. The specimens were mostly small, and their uniqueness was they had been precariously attached to the walls by fibrous malachite. Many had fallen free by the workings and were considered floaters, as only tiny fragments of malachite could be found on them. The color is extremely vibrant when backlit. We bought several flats of miniatures and thumbnails and this is a choice example.
