Calcite

A curious specimen consisting of near parallel stalactites similar to the Carter County specimens except the calcite is well crystalized into tiny stacked rhombohedra. The locality only states “Pierre Shale” which encompasses a large area that includes Elks Creek and Carter County. Elk Creek flows across the Upper Cretaceous Pierre Shale . Thus, the exact mine/locality may only be surmised. Ex Kenny Gay Collection.
