Rhodochrosite

Very unusual combination Scalenohedron / Rhombohedron perched perpendicular to a more typical scalenohedron which is contacted with a minor amount of black manganite matrix. The featured aerial crystal shows a good scalenohedral modification on both -101and the opposite negative face with the c axis severely compressed. The other main faces are good rhombohedra. All edges and faces are pristine except for a modest amount of black matrix on one rhombohedral face. The color is a distinct dark red with good translucence and matte luster.
