Iron mining in French Creek began as early as 1717, producing over a million tons of ore in its production history. Its primary ore was Magnetite. It has been closed for more than 60 years and is no longer accessible. One can ascertain, in several areas, the compacted platy masses of Hematite crystals, which are now pseudomorphed to Magnetite.
