Azurite, Chalcocite, Malachite and Cuprite var Chalcotrichite

A wonderfully layered matrix featuring veins of blue azurite with crustal malachite in which micro crystals of chalcocite have formed in diabase. At the bottom left of the specimen we see bright orange/red tufts of chalcotrichite. This specimen was pictured in the article “The Trap Rock Quarries of Northern Virginia” in Rocks and Minerals Volume 98 Issue 2. According to the article this specimen was the ONLY reported find of chalcotrichite from the plant. Collected by Joel Baskin in 1996. Ex James Zigras and George Loud.
