In 1986 a discovery of some of the largest Andalusite crystals were found at Altavista. Andalusite is a relatively common mineral found in metamorphic environments, but well defined large crystals are uncommon. For an in depth read on this locality use the following URL https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00357529.1988.11761881 . This cluster of at least 4 crystals came from the collection of state geologist Dave Woolley in 1992. It went to Fred Parker who relinquished it to George Loud in 1997.
