Malachite coating (replacing?) Chalcopyrite
$130.00
Availability: 1 in stock
The San Pedro Mine was famous for the sensational chalcopyrites found at depth. As a copper/gold mine the majority of copper ore was in the form of chalcopyrite. Collectors have been chasing these disphenoids since the 1950s, with the largest single crystal reaching 11cm. This specimen was collected by the Simmons in the 1960’s. It is difficult to tell if the malachite has replaced the entirety or is just surficial. Very difficult to obtain material!
