Pyrrhotite and Calcite with Quartz and Manganoan Calcite

A few months ago I met a fellow looking to move product from the Trepca Stari Trg Mine. I inquired if there was anything “special” and he sent photos of these wonderful spherical aggregates of  calcite, ranging from pure white to salmon/pink. We had them tested and the manganese content increases as the spheruls become pinker. Additionally, there were lenticulated rhombohedral mangano calcites on the outer reaches of many quartz crystals. According to Petrit (head hoistman) these were unique. We bought all he had (30+ pieces).  This piece has books of bright brassy pyrrhotites adding dramatic contrast.

With great sadness Petrit Januzzi passed away last week (end of May). He had just had a baby (Musa). Our prayers are with his family.
